Given two points $A(x_1,y_1)$ and $B(x_2,y_2)$ on the coordinate plane. The distance between $A$ and $B$ is given by

$d(A,B)=\sqrt{(x_2-x_1)^2+(y_2-y_1)^2}$
and the coordinates of the midpoint $M$ of the segment $AB$ is given by
$M(\frac{x_1+x_2}{2},\frac{y_1+y_2}{2}).$
All problems on homework 7 is nothing but simple applications of the formulas given above.
